Why Mulatiwa
We work in four connected areas: youth leadership and education; community resilience and environment; protection, equity and wellbeing; and evidence and advocacy.
We manage grants and the community side of research and development programmes in Zambia. While our team consists of competent and seasoned researchers, Mulatiwa Foundation does hold and account for funds on behalf of researchers and other organisations, handle community entry and consent, safeguard participants, and turn findings into something communities and young people can use.
Our work sits with various Zambian research institutions, and we collaborate with other stakeholders within and outside of Zambia.
Registered on 15 August 2025 under the Non-Governmental Organisations’ Act, 2009. Certificate no. RNGO 101/2648/2025

Four connected areas of work, carried with communities, researchers, ministries and funders.
Leadership from age 10 to 19, entrepreneurial skills, vocational and employment pathways, and financial literacy for girls and young women, one child at a time.
Locally owned community projects, climate sensitisation, and work on how climate stress affects the health and mental health of adolescents.
Tackling abuse, marginalisation and the norms that keep girls out of school, and supporting healthy ageing and care for elderly women.
Impact assessment of our programmes, policy engagement, and mentoring between emerging and established leaders.
Flagship initiative
A bold vision for a girls’ leadership school that combines academic excellence with character, confidence and care.
The planned secondary boarding school opens in 2028 with 100 learners aged 12 to 19, rising to 360 at full capacity, with up to 40% of places on full or partial scholarships. It will blend a STEM-forward, Cambridge aligned curriculum with mentorship, leadership, integrity, public speaking, service learning, wellbeing support and global exposure.
How we work
We begin with lived experience and work together on solutions that fit.
We connect communities, government, civil society and private-sector expertise.
We assess programmes regularly and learn from scientific evidence, not assumptions.
We prioritise skills, ownership and models that can last beyond a funding cycle.
Leadership
Mulatiwa is guided by leaders with experience spanning education, health, corporate governance, ethics, investment, operations, enterprise and social impact.
Partner with Mulatiwa
We work with funders, universities and research teams that need a trusted Zambian partner to hold and account for grant funds, reach communities and safeguard participants.
